Spice Paste for Cantonese Stir-Fried Rice

Savoury flavour that stirs up superb fried rice in minutes. For an everyday seasoning that will make your rice portions all the more special to enjoy, this instant spice sachet provides the vivid, savoury flavour of Yangzhou's famed fried rice cooking. Richly seasoned with soy sauce and tomato paste to soak your rice in a colourful tang, this shallot-based paste balances its savoury bite with well-rounded garlic crispness.

Shallots, Soybean Oil, Soy Sauce (Water, Soybean, Wheat Flour, Sugar, Salt), Tomato Paste, Salt, Garlic, Onion, Dark Soy Sauce (Sugar, Salt, Water, Soybean, Wheat Flour), Pepper.

• Heat oil in a frying pan or wok on medium heat. Add your choice of prawns, ham, onion and/or bacon and stir fry for 3 minutes.
• Add rice and the spice paste to the saucepan and stir fry for 2 minutes, stirring the paste thoroughly into your ingredients. 
• Push your stir fried mixture to one side and add 2 beaten eggs. Cook the eggs for 1 minute, before stirring into the rice.
• Add a mixed selection of vegetable and stir fry for a further 2 minutes or until hot. Garnish.


Keep away from direct sunlight and store in a cool, dry place. Once opened, use immediately.


Cantonese Stir-Fried Rice (Serves 4): 

1 packet Cantonese Stir-Fried Rice Spice Paste
2-3 tbsp vegetable oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
100g (3.5 oz) prawns, ham or bacon
3 1/4 cups (650g) cooked rice
2 eggs, beaten
100g (3.5 oz) frozen mixed vegetables
Sliced spring onions and red chillies, thinly sliced, as garnish

Cooking Instructions:
1. Heat oil in non-stick wok on medium heat. Add onion, prawns, ham or bacon
2. Stir-fry for 3 minutes. Add rice and spice paste, stir-fry for 2 minutes
3. Push mixture to one side of wok. Add eggs, cook for 1 minute and stir into rice mixture. Add mixed vegetables and stir-fry for 2 minutes or until hot. Garnish

Cooking Tip: Snow peas, button mushrooms or vegetables of your choice may be used instead of meat or prawns.
