Spice Paste for Cantonese Chow Mien Stir-Fried Noodles

Richly seasoned with soy sauce and tomato paste to soak your noodles in a colourful tang, this shallot-based paste balances its savoury bite with well-rounded garlic crispness. A wonderful flavour to build into your noodle dishes and a great way to spruce up leftovers, simply stir this tasty paste into a stir fry with a pick of you favourite meat and vegetables.

 

Ingredients: 

Shallots, Soybean Oil, Soya Sauce (Water, SoybeanWheat Flour, Sugar, Salt), Tomato Paste, Salt, Garlic, Onion, Dark Soy Sauce (Sugar, Salt, Water, Soy BeanWheat Flour), Pepper.

Storage

Preparations:

• Heat oil in a frying pan or wok on medium heat. Add your choice of meat, seafood or vegetables and stir fry for 3 minutes.
• Add noodles and the spice paste to the saucepan and stir fry for 5 minutes or until cooked, stirring the paste thoroughly into your ingredients. 
• Garnish with your choice of meat, vegetables and seasonings.

 

Recipe 

Chow Mein Noodle (Serves 4):

Ingredients:
1 packet Cantonese Chow Mein Spice Paste
3 tbsp vegetable oil
200g (7 oz) dried egg noodles (to soften noodles, follow pack instructions)
200g (7 oz) sliced meat or seafood (prawns, squid, calamari or mussels)
100g (3.5 oz) a combination of shredded cabbage and carrot
Thinly sliced spring onions or red chillies strips as garnish

Cooking Instructions:
1. Heat oil in a non-stick wok on medium heat
2. Add meat or seafood and vegetables, stir-fry 3 minutes
3. Add noodles and spice paste, stir-fry for 5 minutes or until cooked. Garnish

Cooking Tip: For a vegetarian dish, you may use 200g (7 oz) vegetables of your choice to replace meat or seafood
